Last Day in Shanghai :(

After a fabulous night sleep in our amazing hotel, we decided to go out and see the sights and attractions of Shanghai. Thanks to our convenient location, all of the things we plan to see are within a 10 km radius of us. We walked to the first attraction our list, the People’s Square. This is the by far the largest public area in Shanghai and is filled with so many things to do and see. We started at Nanjing Road which has over 600 places for shopping and having a bite to eat. The road is almost 4 miles long and is filled street musicians who put on a fantastic show. After an exhausting walk, we decided to head to the Shanghai museum for a little history lesson and finish with a show at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. It is such an exciting place with so many different things to experience and the best part is, it is 100% FREE!

Next, we set off for the Yuyuan Gardens. It was absolutely beautiful! There were six different areas of the garden to explore and they are all done in a different style than the next.

My favourite area was the Grand Rockery, which is in the middle of the gardens and is the most popular place for people to go. We had lunch at the most amazing restaurant in the gardens and then did some souvenirs shopping, but we were dying to see the famous Jade Buddha Temple before we ran out of time. We caught a taxi because the bus was packed with people and headed to the temple. The temple is filled with priceless artworks and statues, including two of Buddha made out of porcelain and Jade, hence the name. I learned that the temple was brought over from Burma in the late 1800’s which makes me wonder… how the hell did they move an entire temple without the equipment we have today??

After a day of sightseeing and experiencing Shanghai in the daytime, we left for Xin Tian Di. This street filled with old world architecture is now the place to go to experience the nightlife. Tomorrow we take the Maglev train, which covers a distance of 30km in 7 minutes, which will take us to the airport in record time. This has been an amazing two weeks but I think we are all ready to go home.
